Agricultural Industry
3m³/h RO plant to treat irrigation water
Problem Statement
The client’s irrigation water contained elevated Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and high conductivity levels, exceeding the tolerance threshold of their medical-grade cannabis crops. As a result, the crops were under stress and yields were at risk, highlighting the urgent need for improved water quality.
Solution
Watericon supplied and built a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system to lower the TDS of the client’s feed water to crop-safe levels. As part of pretreatment, an Activated Filter Media (AFM) was installed — a next-generation alternative to sand that delivers higher efficiency, longer life, and resistance to biofouling. An activated carbon filter was also included to eliminate organics and chlorine by-products that could otherwise damage the RO membranes. Together, this pretreatment train protected the RO system, optimized its performance, and delivered consistently high-quality water for irrigation.
Process
- Multimedia filtration
- Reverse Osmosis
Result
- By lowering TDS in the irrigation water, the farm secured healthier crops with improved yields and superior quality, directly enhancing productivity and profitability.
